All In The Family

Cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam, of electronic duo Kllo, first played together at a family party. Two EPs and an album later, they’re now an act to be reckoned with. As they hit the stage at this month’s Laneway Festival, we catch up with Kaul

GROWING UP, WE WERE THE AWKWARD COUSINS WHO ONLY SAW EACH OTHER AT CHRISTMAS. Our mums were actually the ones to bring us together musically. I was making my own folk music – though no-one had really heard it because I was too shy to show anyone – and Simon needed [vocals] to record for his sound engineering course. His mum suggested he record mine, and our friendship grew from there. The first time we ever performed together was at Simon’s mum’s 50th birthday!
