Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

If you are trying to recover from a bad split, you are not alone. Breakups happen. In the world of dating, everyone has at least one bad breakup from which they’ve had to bounce back.

Whether you got over your ex with the help of Ben & Jerry’s or a professional therapist, it’s not uncommon to express your pain, loss and disappointment in ways that help you vent. Some of us take to Twitter, blasting news of our pain—or elation—often divulging too many intimate details. Or you may have that one BFF crying on your shoulder and needing advice.

To put it simply, it’s how we identify with breakups that is the key to helping us get through the tough times. Let’s be honest: When we hear that a couple has broken up, we automatically assume the worst. We rarely think both parties are happy the union has ended. Society has taught us to believe all relationships that don’t last have ended badly. Not so.

Often, we don’t see the benefits to breakups. But what if we were able to redefine how we identify and deal with them Maybe then we would have a chance at dealing with relationship dissolutions in a more positive way.
