PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT AND DESIGNER ANURADHA SHAH DESIGNS A SOPHISTICATED HOME FOR A NUCLEAR FAMILY IN MUMBAI.

- Marina Correa

A Timeless Appeal

Talented and dynamic Anuradha Shah, Principal architect and designer of AShah Architects, has a knack for creating rooms that feel both contemporary and timeless, and that is exactly what she has done with this 1,350 sq.ft. apartment for a nuclear family in Napeansea Road, Mumbai. In a world grappling with climate change, Anuradha has focused not only on bringing style and luxury to this home, but also on ensuring that all materials are locally sourced and the home is energy saving; thus marrying luxury with sustainability.

The magic starts right from the main door: perfectly crafted with stylish copper handle detailing. As you enter this completely automated house, the first thing you see is a deep red wall on which hangs an ornate painting of Lord Krishna, blessing the house and its residents. The painting is also a representation of the marriage of traditionalism and modernity. Warmth is infused into the home viz. the overall subdued colour palette comprising earthy tones of beige, brown and sand. This is enhanced by the subtle hint of colours with the red wall and other accents around the house. At the entrance is a neat shoe and utility cupboard with louvered wooden shutters that enhances the drama of the seating area, which is backed with an antique gold laser-cut panelling.
