The spaces which take up the greatest area in your home are often also the most neglected. We may splurge on a sofa or swish statement cushions but live within blank walls and uncovered floors. Pay attention to the largest surfaces and let your imagination run wild.

Play with colours outside the usual scope like this dusty salmon colour from Crown Paints (directly above), which immediately softens a room, or on a more personalised approach, a mural (top right). Cullifords' grey and white colour scheme is interesting without being overpowering in a neutrally decorated space.
