Home security provides you with peace of mind. If you’ve ever thought a home invasion or break-in would never happen to you, here’s a sobering statistic. According to 2021 figures released by Budget Direct, 4.3 per cent of Australian households experienced at least one break-in (or attempted break-in) during the past 12 months. Australia also has the seventh highest rate of burglaries in the world.

In the past decade, there have been rapid advancements in what you can achieve for little cost in home security. Brad Little, Arlo vice-president and managing director, says one of the biggest changes in technology is making it easier than ever for consumers to set up their own home security and monitor it from anywhere. “Arlo has led via innovation to allow home security to be more easily installed wirelessly, in minutes and onto your smartphone, removing the need for professional installers and complicated DIY installations,” he says.

Brad adds that not only are products easier to install and use, the quality is far superior. “From a vision perspective we are seeing better resolution (up to 4K), colour night vision and wider camera angles (up to 180 degrees) that are all allowing consumers to see more than ever before,” he says.

Home security has indeed evolved over the past decade. The global proliferation of the internet is changing the way we live. Julia Davis, head of Devices and Services Marketing for Google Australia, says almost every part of the home can be connected to the internet, allowing local or remote control of your smart camera, doorbell, lights, locks and more.
