Scottish initiative will see 900 Japanese larch felled and replaced

Tree Disease Tackled

Work is under way to tackle a damaging plant disease at one of Scotland’s finest gardens.

The move is the latest step in the bid to manage the outbreak of sudden oak death (Phytophthora ramorum) at the National Trust for Scotland’s Arduaine Garden in Argyll. It has affected a number of forests across Scotland and the Trust has been managing the disease at Arduaine since it was first discovered in 2007.

Around 900 Japanese larch trees will be felled as part of a £250,000, four-year plan designed to also boost biodiversity and resilience at Arduaine.
