The owners of this restored and extended property have blended classic with contemporary to achieve a strikingly modern open plan space with references to the original house

This beautiful old property had been derelict for about ten years when the couple first took ownership. As it is located in a conservation area, they retained the original façade of the house and added a contemporary extension to the rear aspect, designed to accommodate their open plan kitchen, living and dining area.

The owners wanted to create a seamless connection between the old and the new with a bespoke handcrafted kitchen, yet with a decidedly contemporary feel that would sit very naturally in the new space. While they wanted to achieve a striking linear look, they were mindful of avoiding any materials or finishes that could appear clinical or austere. Rather, they wanted to create a warm and inviting ambience that, while striking and contemporary also referenced the classic original house to the front.
