In keeping with their active lifestyle, the owners desired a refresh of the period rooms that retained the original vintage appeal they cherished but with thoughtfully blended updates to meet their young family’s modern living needs. The homeowners turned to Chicago-based interior designer Tom Stringer to accomplish the task.

Tom and his firm skillfully balanced preserving the classic character of the interiors while simultaneously reworking the existing floor plan, renovating and refurnishing the entire home. “The kitchen was completely redone, but we salvaged and reinstalled hand painted tiles for the backsplash, made by my client’s grandmother, that feature favorite recipes collected from friends,” Tom says. “It added such a wonderful story to the home and meant so much to the owner that she was able to carry on a piece of her family history.”
