Architect Tanya Chutani of Pantone Collective Design Studio demonstrates how a striking monotonic colour scheme can lead to powerful space-making with the Abdul Halder flagship store in New Delhi.

A minimal material palette. A chromatic scheme upheld on a single colour. Graceful arches. Glints of gold. Sensuous velvet. Welcome to the incredibly striking Abdul Halder flagship store, New Delhi. The creator of this vision is architect Tanya Chutani, principal of one-year-old Pantone Collective Design Studio. However, her experience in the design field goes back further: she has collaborated on projects like PVR Director’s Cut - Home, PVR Gold Class Gurugram and retail design for Sureena Chowdhri in addition to a slew of hospitality, residential and commercial projects. She admits to a penchant for creating spaces with art and colours — you’d guess as much from the name of her design firm — and that’s what brought her to the notice of the fashion brand which was looking to establish a flagship store in New Delhi. The client requirement mentioned the creation of a brand identity with luxurious connotations, a spatial identity that would put the rich, elegant designerwear in focus. The same vocabulary would then be carried forward to its upcoming stores in Dubai, London and New York.
