Metal is a unique canvas… but its unpredictable nature discourages most designers from working exclusively with the material. Hence, you’ll find them co-existing with other materials in most creations. But, once in a while, one comes across some risk-takers, who are ready to tread the unbeaten path and embrace the material to bring out its true potential. Meet husband and wife duo Karun Malik and Meghna Malik who introduced their home decor brand The Lohasmith in 2016. The duo dared to focus all their energies on changing mind sets by creating minimal, clean-lined, quirky products — exclusively from metal — which strives to cater to the evolving aesthetic identity of the modern Indian — global in perspective, yet traditional at heart. Driven by a love of design, a desire to reinvent how metal is used in decorating spaces and a commitment to produce products that adhere to international standards of quality, the designers work with a team of experienced artisans and craftsmen who employ indigenous metalworking techniques to create products that celebrate the durability and diversity of metals like steel, brass and copper.
