BLAST FROM THE PAST

Several decades of vintage style form the inspiration for Lizzie Morgan’s cool and quirky crocheted fashion collection Gimme Kaya – which is sustainable to boot…

The Gimme Kaya fashion brand is the brain child of crocheter Lizzie Morgan. One look at her Instagram, filled with gorgeous pieces each packing a serious colour pop, and you’d be hard pushed to believe that she first picked up a hook just four years ago, and is pretty much self-taught!
High fashion combines with down-to-earth practicality in Lizzie’s day as she still manages to run her ‘crochet couture’ business from her bedroom, despite her rapidly-growing brand reaching new heights of popularity and even featuring in the pages of Vogue magazine. “I like to be comfortable when I am crocheting so my orders are usually made from my bed!” she says. “I would love to have my own studio space but that might be a goal for the next year or two. The great thing about crochet is that you can take it anywhere, so really my studio is everywhere I go!”
HIPPY CHIC
Gimme Kaya is all about being inspired by vintage trends – but Lizzie doesn’t focus on a particular time in fashion history; instead she prefers to mix things up to create her own look. “My personal style has always been made up of unique secondhand pieces that I have thrifted. I like clothing and fashion from different eras, and I feel this is really reflected in my work. For example I take a lot of inspiration from 60s and 70s shapes and colours, but I think the quirky and playful vibe of my work comes more from the 90s and 00s era.”
