We all know the importance of staying well-hydrated, managing our stress levels, following a healthy diet and making time for regular physical activity, but there are plenty of additional ways to elevate our health naturally. Many studies have now shown that a disrupted microbiota can lead to numerous chronic diseases. The best way to maintain a healthy microbial is to eat a range of fresh, whole foods, mainly from plant sources such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans and whole grains. A healthy gut flora high in friendly bacteria is essential for overall health. Here’s how we can also ensure a healthy gut flora:
Get enough shut-eye
Getting plenty of good-quality sleep can help improve mood, cognition and gut health. A 2014 animal study indicated that irregular sleep habits and disturbed sleep can have negative outcomes on the gut flora, which may increase the risk of inflammatory conditions. Establish healthful sleep habits by going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, and remember that adults should get at least seven hours of sleep each night.
