REVERSE SHARK'S TOOTH WITH A HALF ROLL
Model Airplane News
|November 2020
For something out of the ordinary, let’s discuss a common International Miniature Aerobatic Club (IMAC) maneuver. While the Reverse Shark’s Tooth can be performed with many different variations, let’s go over it in its most basic form, while adding a half roll during the upline. If you’re interested in learning more about aerobatic maneuvers or competition, then visit the mini-iac.com website. Even if you do not intend to become a competition pilot, this maneuver is a great turn-around maneuver (a fancy way to change flight direction). Also, it will build on your skills as it incorporates the fundamentals of a roll and loop (and performing various radius corners throughout the maneuver), all while maintaining certain flight attitudes in upright and inverted flight. Let’s begin!

SETUP
To perform this or any precision maneuver with utmost perfection, you must have the proper aircraft setup. I’ve seen pilots performing maneuvers like this one while using maximum control throws that exceed +/-35 degrees. Simply said, it was not pretty! I strongly encourage you to make sure that you tweak your flight setup to the type of model you are flying. On most aircraft, I use around 20 percent exponential on my low rate setting. This maneuver should be performed on a rate where you have about 12 degrees of elevator deflection, 30 degrees of rudder deflection and around 15 degrees of aileron deflection. If you think that your airplane is still very sensitive around neutral stick, increase the exponential amount in 5-percent increments on that given control surface. Similarly, if your airplane is rather slow to respond, decrease the amount of exponential or increase your endpoint on that given control surface.

PRODUCT REVIEW: RC PLANE STANDS BENCHTOP MODEL
I’m a sucker for shop stuff. I buy tools I will probably never use just because they are cool, or I might need to use them someday. When Glen from RC Plane Stands reached out about a review, however, I knew as soon as I browsed their website that I would be receiving something I would use a lot, maybe even daily.
