Changing Dynamics Of Aviation

Of all global sectors affected by the spread of the virus, perhaps none have been hit harder than the aviation industry. For airports, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers that have withstood a succession of natural and man-made disasters in recent years, will COVID-19 prove to be the final straw?

Perhaps not! Aviation is a robust industry. It has witnessed many disasters and has always come on top of challenges.

The air-transport sector, though represents only a small share of the local economy, yet strong inter-industry linkages with related sectors of trade, travel and tourism - aircraft manufacturing; rental & leasing services, refined aviation fuel industry notwithstanding; make it an important part of the global economy. Aviation contributes nearly 4 per cent of the global gross domestic product (GDP).

The universality of the aviation sector cannot be overemphasized in view; that of the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also known as Global Goals - A blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030adopted by all the United Nations Member States in 2015; the role of aviation is acknowledged and deemed pertinent to support and implement 14 of the 17 SDGs – a very high rate of dependence on the role and contribution of one particular transportation system.
