No alternatives would give same benefits, says study

An important new report provides a glorious boost to driven grouse shooting, stating it provides ecological, economic and social benefits

A new report has given a ringing endorsement to driven grouse shooting (DGS). The 242-page paper written by a team from the University of Northampton, entitled Sustainable Grouse Shooting? A Summary of the Evidence looked at the case for and against the sport. Its conclusions will come as a blow to critics of traditional moorland management.

Examining the economic impact of a ban, the experts concluded that “moorland communities in areas where grouse shooting takes place have a high level of ‘community and a greater sense of belonging than the national average”.
