There have been a few 80s reboots recently, but the anticipation around Blade Runner 2049 feels different…

‘I think that’s because Blade Runner became this big cult movie, but it wasn’t received that way when it first came out. There was a lot of pressure adapting it, but it’s been approached with respect. Watching the preview, it feels like this exciting thing that people who grew up with the movie get to be a part of.’

You’ve just finished the final season of Halt And Catch Fire. How has playing a coder for four years affected your relationship with technology?

‘I’ve become much more aware of the things I use. If you create a tool that’s going to encompass any part of human consciousness – which I think the internet does – it will encompass the good as well as the bad. There’s something quite naive about the way it was created with the purest intentions, but now there are many parts of it we wish we could get away from.’
