The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) organised a Press Conference to announce the 65th National Garment Fair on June 27, 2017, at Hotel Samrat, Churchgate, Mumbai. Mrugaya Chitnis reports.

This media briefing which was addressed by Mr Rahul Mehta, President, CMAI, Mr Premal Udani, Ex President, CMAI, Mr Rajesh Masand, Vice president, CMAI & Members of the Managing Committee of the CMAI, was to clarify regarding the anticipated impact of GST on the development & growth of the Indian Garment Industry and appraise the members about the 65th edition of National Garment Fair (NGF) to be held from July 10 to 12, 2017, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NSE Complex, Goregaon (E), Mumbai, a highly anticipated event.

AGENDA

Addressing the Press Conference which included media personnel from various newspapers, channels and online portals, Mr Rahul Mehta said, “This press meet has been organised to announce the 65th NGF which will be held on a unprecedented scale with over 1000 brands present at the exhibition. This largest ever fair in the garment Industry in India will be spread over approximately six lakh sq ft., with 881 Stalls displaying 1005 brands by 822 Exhibitors. Approximately 40-45 thousand traders are expected to visit the fair over the three days. In order to avoid a huge rush, we have introduced online registration so that the traders and industry people don't face any inconvenience.”

The Association has Invited Hon’ble Union Textiles Minister Smt Smriti Irani to be the Chief Guest and Inaugurate the Fair along with Shri Anant Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary (Textiles), as the Guest of Honour.

RESPONSE TO GST

Mr Mehta continued, “Speaking on the GST, I will say that the garment industry is quite pleased with the present structure of the GST. For the past few months, we have been interacting with the government with our demands for the lowest rate bracket for the garment industry, to maintain the same rate throughout the value chain and to keep the rules and regulations as simple as possible.
