Describe the two looks and explain why women should try them. “You don’t need much skill or products to recreate Classic Parisian. It’s about that soft winged eyeliner that brings out the eyes, and the base is so light, it suits a lot of women. Midnight Rose is bold, sexy yet sophisticated. When you wear makeup like that to an event, women will be envious, not jealous.”

How can one ace the smoky eye look? “Women always think that smoky eyes must be black, but it’s not about the colour. It’s more about the technique. Start with a cream eyeshadow or cream kohl pencil to rim the eyes, then build up the eyeshadow.”

The house of Chanel has been a committed champion of the film world since founder Gabrielle Chanel started dressing the actresses from the United Artists studio at the request of American producer Samuel Goldwyn in the 1930s. Besides styling stars on screen and off, the brand has been an active supporter of international movie festivals, institutions and directors (local auteur Eric Khoo was one of them); has helped to restore classics such as the enigmatic Last Year at Marienbad (1961); and often draws inspiration from cinema.
