WOULD LIKE TO BREAK THE UPGRADE CYCLE, BUT IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE IT HAPPENING WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE
MATT BOLTON…

More and more, I’ve heard people saying they wish Apple wouldn’t push itself to yearly software upgrades. As iOS becomes increasingly complex, its releases become increasingly notable for bugs and little frustrating issues. And it’s not just new releases – I’ve found that the camera too-regularly stalls when changing between lenses for a good couple of years now, across multiple software updates.

I think Apple has already made some concessions to this, by often announcing features that will be part of a new version of iOS, but holding them to release in a .1 or .2 update – giving itself fewer things to nail in the initial release. Updates to other products often filter out later than iOS, and while macOS updates are announced alongside iOS, they usually release months later. But it hasn’t stopped the feeling that bugs are a growing issue.
