A Korean family living in Canada provide thought-provoking life lessons with a laugh or two in sitcom Kim’s Convenience.

Fridays are the new family nights in front of the TV thanks to the arrival of the Kim family in award-winning series Kim’s Convenience (which can also be streamed on Netflix). It’s set in Moss Park, a somewhat poor suburb of Toronto, Canada that’s filled with housing projects. That doesn’t mean the show is cheap on laughs. If anything, it is one of the richest comedy series you’ll find, says lead star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. He plays convenience shop owner Sangil Kim aka Appa and says that “the show is all about laughter, it’s about education, it’s about entertaining and talking about real-life social topics like homophobia, children finding their place in the world, following their dreams and how broken families can find salvation”. Kim’s Convenience is the perfect medicine if you’re down in the dumps.
