Usually the storylines in medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy mirror the harsh realities that healthcare workers face in real life. In season 18, the writers take a much lighter and different approach to the characters’ plots. Instead of dedicating another season to exploring the effects of COVID-19, season 18 is set in a post-pandemic world and the themes offer hope for a brighter future.
Having recovered from her long battle with COVID-19, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) had a dream in the premiere episode on 14 February that helps her put her career into perspective. In the vision, Mer’s late mom Ellis (Kate Burton) asks her the question: “You survived the unthinkable. What do you have to show for it?”
