GH’s Nicolas Bechtel On His Summer Run

For Nicolas Bechtel, all good things must come to an end, and on August 4,his Spencer reprisal wrapped up with the character heading back to boarding school in France.

“My last day was bittersweet,” the young actor reports. “I love GH and I love everyone there. Genie [Francis, Laura] exited for a summer break on the same day as I did and the show was going dark for three weeks, so it wasn’t too bad. But GH is home for me so any time I leave it’s hard.”

Easing the blow was a surprise good-bye sendoff (see page 28). “Frank [Valentini, executive producer] knew I was sad,” Bechtel explains. “I read my script a few days before I was scheduled to work and I realized that it would be my exit. I wasn’t 100 percent sure so I called Frank and confirmed. He and I discussed GH going on hiatus, going back to my other show [STUCK IN THE MIDDLE on the Disney Channel] and also me having a solid summer break. A few days later, Frank texted my mom and said he was going to plan something fun for me. You see why I love this guy? It was such a surprise.”
