She’s been a star for three decades, but her latest role could be her most explosive yet

She started the year with more Big Little Lies, now Nicole Kidman is in hot pursuit of the truth.

Teaming up with fellow Hollywood heavyweights Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron, Nicole is set to blow up Tinseltown in her latest film Bombshell, which is based on the real-life accounts of several TV journalists who expose their powerful news network CEO as a serial sexual harasser. (The recent TV series The Loudest Voice covered the scandal, too.)

Nicole plays former Fox News anchorwoman Gretchen Carlson, who first blew the whistle. ‘It’s a film that may be disturbing and cause you to recoil but at the same time it’s entertaining,’ says the 52-year-old actress.

With her own daughters in mind, and an ambition to work with the best in the business, Bombshell is just the kind of project Nicole is primed for these days.

Having achieved all there is to achieve in Hollywood, the Australian superstar admits she won’t leave her Nashville home – and daughters Sunday Rose, 11, and Faith Margaret, nine (the girls she and her country music star husband Keith Urban dote on) – without the lure of compelling material… like this movie.

How did you get involved with this biographical drama?

They called me and said, ‘There is this really interesting project. Charlize Theron is producing it. Jay Roach is directing it. It’s written by Charles Randolph.’ I just went, ‘Wow!’ I was in the middle of shooting Big Little Lies and I was tired [laughs], but things like this don’t come along very often. I had so wanted to work with Charlize for almost a decade. I had also wanted to work with Jay and Charles, but nothing had ever eventuated until now.
