The whole trip was plagued by controversy. In March, Prince William and Kate Middleton launched their first joint official overseas tour since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, landing in Belize, where their first outing - a visit to a sustainable cocoa farm was canceled amid local protests over colonialism. It only went downhill from there as more protests and calls for slavery reparation followed – this time as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Jamaica and the Bahamas, where leaders in both Caribbean island nations revealed plans to cut ties with the British monarchy and pursue independence.
It was a rare bungle for the future king and his wife. But while William, 39, and Kate, 40, were facing backlash amid their disastrous tour on the world stage, another royal couple were quietly dealing with problems much closer to home. “The honeymoon phase is over for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle," says a source, who claims that two years after exiting as senior royals and moving from England to California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are leading increasingly separate lives on the eve of their fourth wedding anniversary, in May. "Harry has gone from being holed up in Montecito with Meghan to suddenly doing his own thing. He isn't home much anymore and sometimes vanishes for days."
Meghan, 40, meanwhile, has carved out a life of her own without Harry, 37, adds the source. "She's a very independent woman, so she likes him being out of the house, to be honest," notes the source. “They both need space.”
