Gold has always been the symbol of opulence and prestige, but did you know it can be used in skincare against signs of ageing?

“In ancient times, gold was believed to be the ‘elixir of life’ and a potent remedy for ageing skin. Egyptian queens slept in gold masks every night; gold was the key to youth in ancient Chinese medicine; and the Empress of the Qing dynasty used a gold massage roller on her face as part of the daily beauty routine,” says Tal Feher, area manager of Asia Beauty Concepts Limited who distributes Orogold products and treatments in Hong Kong.

The luxury anti-ageing skincare brand, which was founded in 2008 in Los Angeles and has more than 100 stores across the globe, is known for infusing pure 24-carat gold from Italy in all its products. “The precious metal restores the skin’s youthful appearance, saving it from sun damage and a myriad of environmental factors which cause premature ageing,” explains Feher, who adds that gold ions can stimulate skin cells and improve blood circulation to enhance brightening effect, and other benefits of gold include being naturally hypo-allergic and slowing down the depletion of collagen.
