The math doesn’t lie, folks: The average age of a Top 10 Most Popular star last year was about 32. This year, it hovers closer to 40.

Hurray for showbiz vets like Jin Yinji and Pan Lingling, whose long-awaited wins evoked tears of joy all around. This, and other moments that had us buzzing all night:
1 The oldest winner gave the freshest, most unaffected speech of the night
Jin Yinji winning her first award for the first time in her 30-year career was hands down the most touching moment of the night. The 71-year-old actress was caught totally by surprise (she looked as if she’d been sitting at home watching the evening news) when she was announced as the last of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes. Her initial disbelief, confusion and fi nally, tearful elation, was moving to watch. “Life truly begins at 70,” she sobbed. “It’s so hard to get up on this stage, I’ve acted for 30 years and never been up here until now.” On a stage where youth and glamour usually reign, it was nice to see longevity rewarded… and grandchildren being mentioned in a thank you speech.
2 Kym Ng could be Most Popular Female Artiste… Among the Artistes
The lovable, perennially bubbly 50-year-old was at first stunned, then slightly weepy (in a good way) when she accepted the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in When Duty Calls from presenter Christopher Lee (did he look good or what). When she ascended the stage a second time to collect her Top 10 award, she expressed gratitude to colleagues like Zoe who had been stumping for her in the lead-up to the night. Maybe next year we should have an award for Most Popular Artiste that’s only open to artiste votes a la Miss/Mr Congeniality?
