People want to be happy and try to improve their well-being. Having good social relationships is an important source to be exulted in life.

Impact Of Friendship Networks On Academic Excellence

In contemporary society, we have the technology to expand social networks, increasing the flow of communication over a large number of people without human interaction. Friends play an important role in academic process. Usually, students can change their behavior simply by sitting next to each other in class. They can support, provide resources and can act both motivators and de-motivators in academic pursuits.

“Surround yourself only with people who are going to take you higher” - Oprah Winfrey

Illuminate college life with positive social networks

Friendship is a ubiquitous feature in all colleges. A college student’s peers act as a reference group or an environmental source of socio-cultural norms in the midst of which a student grows and develops (Clark and Trow 1966). Friendships and social networks at college should not be underestimated, as they can either help or deter students academically and socially. It is a well-known fact that good study habits, supportive parents, academic facilitators, and mentors play a pivotal role in students’ life to secure good grades in academics. A healthy ambiance and positive social networks will certainly illuminate the academic life of students. It’s a proven fact that a meaningful friendship and social network will show an immense impact on the academic excellence of students. Social networks that informally emerge within student communities can have an additional effect on their achievement. Modern scholars affirmed that friendships and peer groups play a significant role in academic excellence. High-achieving students are more likely to extend ties to other high-achieving students. Low achieving peers, by contrast, may likewise set a negative example by following an anti-school norm and thereby reduce their friends’ academic pursuit.
