But not everybody’s struggle stories have we heard. Patricia Narayan

From battling an abusive marriage to selling snacks and beverages on a mobile cart, Patricia Narayan is a hero we all must know. She was disowned by her father for having an inter-caste marriage and had to deal with mental and physical torture of her drug addict husband. Patricia took help from her mother to open a mobile cart on Marina Beach in Chennai while she took care of her two children. She tried to reach out to a few canteens in Chennai for business and in 1998, became the director at a restaurant in the city. A few years later, Patricia lost her husband and daughter. In the memory of her daughter, she and her son opened their first restaurant ‘Sandeepha’ and now have hundreds of employees working for them. Patricia Narayan received the ‘FICCI Woman Entrepreneur of the Year’ award in 2010 for her hard work and achievements despite facing extreme devastations.
