There is a growing awareness of green building and housing in Indonesia. Bambulogy (PT Indonesia Hijau Dwidaya) is an emerging player in the construction industry that is looking into these opportunities. Founded in 2014 and run by Ferry Sanjaya as CEO and Karim Munaf as cofounder and chief wood engineer, Bambulogy offers to design and build interiors and provide exterior services using bamboo-composites as a means of constructing environmentally friendly, sturdy, and long-lasting houses and furniture. While the use of bamboo as a construction material is fairly common, not just in this country but elsewhere in Asia, Bambulogy claims to be the company to produce parallel-strand bamboo composite and commercialize it for structural functions in Indonesia. The bamboo composite allows the material to be more flexible in shaping and designing to meet architectural aesthetics.
“We’ve witnessed environmental damage caused by unsustainable harvesting of natural resources, and it has moved us to create a company that focuses on using a sustainable material, which we believe is bamboo,” said Ferry, who used to work at an energy company.
