The growing popularity of healthy foods and drinks in India can be traced to the changing patterns in India’s society and economy in the recent years and is increasingly reflected by the profusion of healthy foods and beverages in the sleek supermarket shelves of Indian cities. We are now seeing a plethora of health foods, which are termed as functional foods. The popularity of organic foods, which can be described as the zenith of health foods, are also on the rise, and super health foods are becoming vogue among the higher echelons of the Indian society and also among the upwardly mobile metropolitan India.
The Reason
The popularity of healthy foods & beverages can be accounted by the rising health consciousness in the society, which in turn is being fostered by the rising dietary awareness perpetuated through the forces of globalisation. Besides the awareness factor, the need factor has also propelled the demand for healthy foods & beverages in India, particularly among the upper and upper-middle-class segment of the educated Indian population living in the metros.
