Big Data To Create New Growth Opportunities
DataQuest
|October 2016
About 90% of the data in the world today was created in the last 2 years alone. The world has already started to make large strides because of the smart usage of big data tools. In this regard, Dataquest conversed with Rajender Singh Bhandari, Director – Systems Engineering, NetApp Marketing & Services India to know how big data istransforming organizations and helping them compete as well as grow
How is big data changing the way businesses work?
Enterprises are taking a fresh look at their data architecture; in some cases enterprises for the first time are actually creating a data architecture. On the one hand transactional business environments are generating massive amounts of structured data; while on the other, the enterprise ecosystem is generating a variety of unstructured audio, document and video content. Finally, as the enterprise engages with its stakeholders through social and mobility initiatives, CIOs have to incorporate the implications into their data management strategies. The environment is set to get more complicated, as several sectors might have to deal with emerging initiatives like Machine to Machine communication and the Internet of Things.
India has warmed up to the Big data challenge, and it is important that we stay the course. To do so, it is crucial that IT administrators and decision makers have a broad and deep understanding of the various possibilities that big data technologies present and then choose the right implementation to serve the business objectives of their enterprises. About 90% of the data in the world today was created in the last 2 years alone. If we look at the recent trend, the demand for connected devices is high. Further, Gartner has estimated that 4 bn connected things will be in use in the consumer sector in 2016, and will reach 13.5 bn in 2020. The world has already started to makes large strides in this space. We certainly have opportunities to catch up and perhaps lead in this area.
What are the verticals which stand to change with the use of big data analytics tools?

Even if Al demand fades, India need not worry - about data centres
For every megawatt (MW) of installed colocation capacity, users here generate approximately 13.2 PB of data monthly- compared to 0.3 PB for Australia and just 0.01 PB for Singapore. India's data centre growth is not dependent on one tech lever. Plus, it is phased and modular and not kneejerk. Manoj Paul explains these contours in detail.
