Green Buildings For Affordable Living
BUSINESS ECONOMICS
|October 1 - 15, 2018
Green building is not a new concept. In fact, techniques of natural ventilation and natural lighting have been used for ages.
Technological progress has helped in producing various kinds of building materials and techniques that ensure sufficient interplay of the natural elements. Leading real estate builders in India have a list of green projects they have built and are building.
What is a green building?
A green building is indicative of an eco-friendly construction procedure. It uses materials that are environment-friendly and is designed in a way to ensure the optimum utilisation of natural elements like sunlight, rain water and wind. Dr. Madhumita Roy, Professor of Department of Architecture, Jadavpur University, told BE, “The concept of green buildings started since ancient times. With the development of civilisation, people started to move here and there for work and they started to explore different types of natural materials that could be used to build dwellings. However, with the advancement of civilisations, natural materials were slowly disregarded. However, there is now a renewed focus on green buildings and people are looking to explore natural materials and are also looking to use natural resources to conserve energy.”
