Those Three Words

It’s finally the long weekend! I have a three days off from work and for once I have decided to do nothing about it.

It’s finally the long weekend! I have a three days off from work and for once I have decided to do nothing about it. I work too much, more than that is expected of me. I am constantly working and when I am not, I find ways to keep myself busy and engaged. On Saturdays, I Zumba my calories away and on Wednesdays, I recharge myself with a power yoga session. On Thursdays, I go to the local pub to watch a play or encourage budding artists at open mic nights. My Friday nights are reserved for drinking with my friends.

My ex-girlfriend, Shivani, accused me of being selfish as I made very little time for her. She made me realise that I don’t know how to be a good boyfriend. My efforts always fell short. It’s not like I don’t believe in love. I love how being in love makes me feel, I love the fact that you have someone to cherish, someone to call your own. My relationship with Shivani was meaningful and wonderful. I will always be grateful for all that she has taught me and for being such a huge part of my life.

Patience can be a destructive thing. It can either blossom into an infinite reserve of love or fall flat on your face when there is no more patience to give. When Shivani wanted to break up with me, I couldn’t understand what I had done wrong. I loved her with all of my heart, I never cheated on her and I never hid my relationship from anyone. When she left, she told me that I didn’t give her enough time. My time was spent between work and what I wanted to do, what I loved doing. Whenever we went out, I never asked her what she would enjoy doing. I blindly assumed that because she was so comfortable with me, she’d be okay with whatever activity I felt like doing. I never put her first. She left me because she felt like her love for me was wearing off. She was right in doing so.
