A new category of devices are creeping into cars. What they do is record data and send them to the owner with the help of apps or a direct data transfer. Pratik Rakshit experiences few such options currently available in India.

Connectivity has gained a great deal of importance as mobile phones have steadily moved away from being just a gadget for making phone calls to facilitating a virtual environment enabling connectivity, be it for work or leisure. Additionally, connected vehicle technologies have a great deal to offer and car owners today are empowered with the ability to connect cars to different mobile apps that offer features such as alerting the owner of incase of theft or of any unintended vehicle movement and location tracking. Such applications also double up with providing information such as oil level, tire pressure, water level, fuel level, mileage information and battery change alerts et al. Carmakers have accounted for this and many leading industry OEMs have come up with software solutions that enhance users’ connectivity to their car and beyond.
