Lady Ross on the inimitable Kittymoon, who may not have had brakes or stunning looks, but who was ‘the greatest fun’

HOW many hunters have bedded down at Buckingham Palace? One such is the “remarkable” Kittymoon, a much-missed ride of Lady Ross, vice-chairman of the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry.

“My late husband, Lt Col Sir Malcolm Ross, was controller of The Queen’s household and we lived in St. James’s Palace, with no stables,” explains Susie. “After a little bribery and a lot of calling in favours, Kitty arrived in the Royal Mews.”

Kittymoon was born in 1993, out of an “unbreakable” thoroughbred mare, Tabitha Twitchet, by Irish Draught stallion Roma Atlantic Moonshine.
