New EU Organic Regulations: 'Smooth Implementation Vital'

The implementation of significantly overhauled regulations for the EU’s organic farming value chain on 1 January 2021 must be carried out smoothly and effectively and meet the needs of current and future organic farmers.
This is according to the new leadership of the working party on organic farming of COPA-COGECA, the union for farmers and agricultural co-operatives in the EU.
The EU Commission said in a statement that the proposed regulations were largely intended to reflect the changing nature of the EU’s rapidly growing organic farming value chain. They were designed to ensure fair competition for organic farmers, while preventing fraud and maintaining consumer trust.
According to the statement, this would be achieved in seven ways:
