Moussa Dembele Goal Nominated For Prestigious Fifa Puskas Award

MOUSSA Dembele’s third goal against St Johnstone last season in the 5-2 victory at McDiarmid Park has been nominated for the prestigious FIFA Puskas Award for the goal of 2017.

And the Celtic support is also nominated for the FIFA Fan Award 2017 for the stunning full stadium Lisbon Lions tifo display at Celtic Park on the last day of the 2016/17 Premiership season.

Dembele’s strike, one of 32 he scored for the Hoops last season, was the culmination of a 25-pass move that involved every Celtic player including Craig Gordon. It also completed the Frenchman’s hat-trick on the day.

Having already won Scotland’s Goal of the Season for 2016/17, the goal is now on the shortlist for the best in world football (selected from goals scored between November 20, 2016 and July 2, 2017).

The panel of experts who selected the 10 nominees included Celtic legend Henrik Larsson, himself a former winner of the Golden Boot Award back in 2001 as Europe’s top goalscorer. The other panellists were Alan Shearer, Pedrag Mijatovic, Celia Sasic and Abby Wambach.

The 10 nominees are: Moussa Dembele (Celtic) Kevin-Prince Boateng (Las Palmas) Alejandro Camargo (Universidad de Concepcion) Deyna Castellanos (Venezuela U17) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) Aviles Hurtado (Xolos de Tijuana) Mario Mandzukic (Juventus) Oscarine Masuluke (Baroka FC) Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) Jordi Mboula (FC Barcelona Youth)
