Johan Smit of HunTech Pro shares the team’s unusual hunt for feral goats and sheep in the Northern Cape. Laurence Jennings travelled all the way to the Eastern Cape, where he chased rutting fallow deer in the magical Stormberg mountains and bagged a beautiful stag. Another tough customer all hunters have immense respect for is the buffalo. Nico Kotzé and his PH took some great risks tracking down a wounded old dagha boy in the dense thorn thickets of Limpopo – and lived to tell the tale. Local hunters do not always realise how fortunate they are to hunt in the African wilderness. For many overseas hunters, this remains but a dream. Thanks to a kind-hearted local hunting outfitter, American hunter Derome West was able to realise this lifelong dream. Read all about it in “African sunsets”. Wick Burger, who shares his adventurous hippo hunt on the Zambezi River, sums this up really well: “As the sun was setting over the Zambezi River and that magic sunset glow appeared, I couldn’t help thinking about my family and how lucky we are to be able to call ourselves children of Africa!”
