Augmented Reality is most often described as the overlay of digital information on physical reality. From Google Glass to Microsoft’s HoloLens, our focus so far has been on amplifying pseudo-holography to alter our surroundings. What we will undoubtedly gain is intensified commodification of our desires, as the hybrid potential takes over the world of technology in the coming decade in a much deeper sense. Our lives will be arguably far more intricate; we will have far more choice than ever, saturated information, and the effects of this on our behavior and identity will be undeniably consequential. Our Cover Story, ‘The Age of Augmented Reality,’ goes beyond the potential applications of the immersive technology, with particular focus on healthcare, education and key services.
