Standup paddling in a crowded California lineup is a hard sell. That is a fact. I paddle surfed yesterday at a very crowded spot. Positioning myself just below the main peak, I took off on waves that swung wide. I also picked up the leftovers, the waves from the bowl that nobody made. Yes, standup paddle surfing in my crowded hometown break is all about making lemonade out of lemons. I’m surfing lesser-quality waves than those at the top of the lineup, but I’m still snagging my fair share of fun little nuggets. Just minding my own beeswax, humming along, enjoying the solitude of being content with the less than desirable as I go. Imperfection can be sublimely sweet.
