Vesak is the celebration of the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Lord Buddha and long before the brilliant moon competes with thousands of twinkling lights on huge pandals, numerous artists begin their labour of love for the festival of lights.
The prudence of planning, the sagacity of irrigation and the beauty of art wrought from rock, towering stupas second only to the Pyramids that still exist today, all built by Kings of yore serve to marvel and hold spell bound the stream of countless visitors that swarm to peer at Lanka’s glorious years.
Located about 180 km north of Colombo, Wilpattu National Park or Willi as it’s fondly referred to, is the largest and one of the oldest National Game Parks in Sri Lanka.
It is believed that the ongoing development and beautification will not only transform Colombo into the “Garden City of the East” once more but also make it the centrepiece of Sri Lanka’s economic revival.
The historical city of Kandy, the second largest city after Colombo, is a must- see attraction. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1988, it is a magical city filled with rich history and culture that dates back to ancient times.
