Sri Lanka, which until recently ranked high among the growing tourist destinations in South Asia, is having a problem with the prevailing situation in the country. The Minister in charge of the subject, Dharmasiri Senanayake, Minister for Media, Tourism, and Aviation, remains affable and always hopeful despite his tough portfolio.
Sri Lanka's largest foreign exchange earner is heading for big trouble if much-needed changes to the structure of the garment industry are not made in time. Sri Lanka can no longer be complacent, is the unanimous view of analysts in the industry.
It is obvious now that the country needs dairy development. A lot of money goes out on importing milk powder and this cannot go on forever. With whatever limitations we have, Sri Lanka must one day go in for local dairy development.
When Korean investors look to better host country locations for investments, Sri Lankan industrialists at the same time look to attracting foreign investors to develop and expand their industrial ventures.
