For an industry used to high double digit growth for over a decade, the last two years have been daunting for India’s fledgling biotech industry. For the second consecutive year, this modern industry, heralded as a new hope for the country, has struggled to register annual growth below 7 percent. In fact, in 2014-15, the industry has declined marginally from the previous low of 6.9 percent to 6.6 percent. Essentially, the biotech sector is running as fast as it can just to stay where it is or even falling back in the last 24 months. The industry recorded total revenue of `26,836 crore and in Dollar terms remains where it was in the previous year at just over $4 billion.
