Hello World Cup summer! To celebrate loads of footy being on the telly we’ve got a World Kop (see what we did there) special edition featuring another bloody World Cup wall chart that’s, er, different to all the others out there. It’s so good you’ll want to stick it on the wall even if you download The Kop on iPad.
Liverpool have a club record 12 players the World Cup and with six of them in Roy Hodgson’s England squad we ask whether Kopites should put aside the old ‘we’re not English we are Scouse’ mentality to get behind our players in Brazil?
One of them, Rickie Lambert, has already had a dream summer following his £4m move to Anfield, but we cut through the romanticism to analyse whether the 32-year-old is good enough to play for Liverpool FC.
We also focus on FSG’s transfer policy by considering how things have changed as a result of Brendan Rodgers signing his new long-term contract and tell you why Jordan Henderson may yet be about to face the biggest challenge of his career.
Speaking of transfers, you know how Liverpool always sign someone who has played in a World Cup? The first was Kenny Dalglish, the most recent Luis Suarez, and we’ve looked back at all the others in between to see how things tend to turn out for ex-World Cup players at Anfield.
Chris McLoughlin tells the story of Laurie Hughes, Liverpool’s first World Cup player, there’s an opportunity to win one of three superb Campo Retro World Cup shirts and a VIP night out for the World Cup final at Shooters Sports Bar in the Liverpool One Bierkeller complex, and we’ve got a World Cup drinking game that fills time far better than Adrian Chiles in a thunderstorm.
The Kop. Analysis. Humour. Comment. Passion. Opinion. And why Raheem Sterling can’t wear his headphones in Brazil. Gizza read.
