Whether it’s expanding conversations around the climate crisis, lived racialized realities facing the Black diaspora, honouring Indigenous resilience, or mobilizing global Indigeneity, art is an entry point into the larger issues we face as a society. Visual Arts News strives to keep up with the ever-changing and evolving local and global conversations connecting art and the world.

As the leaves turn and the air cools, we all begin to look inward. I hope the Fall issue of Visual Arts News deepens our conversations and inspires reflections on the artist’s important role in contemporary society—art helps us learn and unlearn, and teaches us to navigate the complexities of climate change, Black liberation, Indigenous sovereignty, anti-oppression, and anti-racism, as well as sexual and gender diversity.
