THE HATEFUL EIGHT
Writer/director Quentin Tarantino reunites with his Death Proof star Kurt Russell for The Hateful Eight, an intimately epic western about a group of very, very bad people stuck together in a remote waystation in the middle of a blizzard.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
The most eagerly awaited film of the year is finally here, eventually bringing with it a host of sequels and spin-offs, all existing in a shared Star Wars narrative universe. And with Disney – the owners of both Star Wars and Marvel – leading the charge in interconnected cinema, a long list of similar “shared cinematic universes” are currently being engineered at Hollywood’s major studios.

Michael Fassbender turns in his most surprising and against-type performance yet in Steve Jobs, playing the eponymous tech pioneer, whose ruthlessness and ambition were as famous as his iPods and Apple stores.

TODD HAYNES
With a host of extraordinary films (Poison, Safe, Velvet Goldmine, I’m Not There, Far From Heaven) to his credit, this American indie hero now tackles an unconventional fifties-set romance with Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
