President Murmu inaugurates semiconductor training fab at IISc

On June 3, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated IISc Bengaluru’s Semiconductor Training Fab at CeNSE, established with support from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The 3200 sq.ft. (nearly 300 sq.metres) cleanroom facility will provide hands-on semiconductor manufacturing training and train up to 700 students annually. Building on a programme that has trained 1400 + participants, it aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor talent pipeline.
Semicon 2.0 may exceed India's $10 billion outlay
India is preparing Semicon 2.0, the next phase of its semiconductor incentive programme, which could exceed the original $10 billion allocation. Building on support for projects by Micron, Tata Electronics, and Kaynes, the scheme is expected to expand incentives for equipment, materials, testing, and design firms.
India and Indonesia strengthen semiconductor cooperation
On June 7, 2026, India and Indonesia agreed to deepen cooperation in defence manufacturing, semiconductors, strategic trade, and maritime security during the eighth Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono also discussed supply chain resilience, critical minerals, digital technologies, and Indo-Pacific economic security.
Intel and 3DGS to invest $3.3 billion in Odisha
Odisha has signed an MoU with Intel and 3D Glass Solutions (3DGS) to establish a $3.3 billion advanced glass-core semiconductor substrate facility near Bhubaneswar-Khurda. Planned over five to six years, the project will create more than 1800 skilled jobs.
