PGA professional Joe Ferguson's in-depth assessment of this year's top models will help you find the right big stick for your swing

The 2026 season has ushered in some of the most impressive technology I've ever seen in the driver category. However, with innovation comes complexity. The driver market has never been more crowded or confusing, with manufacturers offering a dizzying array of heads designed for very specific player profiles. To help you cut through the marketing noise, I've spent weeks locked away in the Golf Monthly Performance Lab and out on the course, categorising the latest releases. Using Foresight Sports’ GC3 for industry-leading launch monitor data, I specced out every single driver to a precise 45.5in length and 9° of loft (verified by our tour-spec driver loft and lie machines) to create the most level playing field possible. To further eliminate any variables, I also tested every head using my trusted Fujikura Ventus 6 X Black shaft and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip.
Whether you are looking for raw speed, a cure for your slice or the ultimate fairway-finder, here is my definitive breakdown of the driver 'class of 2026'…
Best for low spin
The low-spin category is often the most competitive, generally targeted at players with high swing speeds looking to both optimise launch conditions and maximise roll-out.
This is a crowded genre right now, and one which certainly warrants more than a few honourable mentions.
Those mentions include the impressive and slightly fade-biased Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond and the classy and extremely reliable Srixon ZXi LS, along with the incredibly stable tour-favourite Ping G440 LST. However, for me, it was two other models that truly separated themselves during my testing.
