NEW 16,500-capacity indoor arena planned for Cardiff Bay has taken a major step forward on its journey to opening in 2028.

Cardiff Council has confirmed that the complex financial arrangements are now complete, clearing the way for construction to begin.

The multimillion-pound arena is at the heart of a redevelopment of the Atlantic Wharf area.

Plans include a 30-acre mixed-use site featuring office spaces, a new public square, leisure facilities, and even amuseum.

On Thursday, the council and a consortium made up of Live Nation and Robertson Property announced the “financial close” - a crucial milestone bringing the project closer to reality.

Officials say this marks a key step in delivering a state-of-the-art venue set to attract world-class artists and entertainment to the city.

The arena will be built on the current surface car park near the Red Dragon Centre, as well as part of the parking area belonging to Cardiff Council's County Hall headquarters.
