No interim stay on CBSE 3-language rule for Class IX from '26-27, says SC

THE Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant any interim relief and refused to pass an order on a plea challenging the CBSE’s decision to make three languages, including two Indian languages, compulsory for Class 9 students from the 2026-27 academic year.
A two-judge bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana clubbed the petition filed by the NGO Friends of People for Active Democracy (FPAD) with other pending petitions on the same issue.
“We are not inclined to pass a one-line interim order. The arguments have been heard in detail. No interim protection can be granted,” the bench said while tagging the matter.
